1% for the planet. Our first year.

1 percent for the planet certification

I am proud to report that our 1% for the planet commitment is now certified for the recently-ended 2022 fiscal year.

When we made our commitment public last year, I stressed that we wanted to consider initiatives

  • geared towards actions rather than words

  • tangible contributions rather than opaque programs

  • nested in a network with global reach but featuring local members.

Here is a quick summary of the two organizations we supported and why.

With nearly 70 member organizations across more than 40 countries, the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) is the world's largest and best-known cyclists' advocacy organization. They aim to improve and increase cycling by influencing policy and harnessing the power of Europe's cycling movements.

With the ECF, we provided hands-on assistance in developing a solution that will help make a case for more cycling infrastructures across Europe.

We also jointly hosted a successful hackathon where participants sparred on imagining innovative mobility improvement initiatives.

The second organization we chose to support is Goodplanet Belgium. Goodplanet Belgium's mission is to encourage all generations to get involved and build a sustainable society through sharing expertise and taking positive actions.

Every year, the Goodplanet teams dispense educational programs that reach thousands of students in Belgium, from elementary schools to universities. We are confident our financial contribution to these programs will have a meaningful impact on future generations.

It's just the beginning.

We were upfront from the start. We are probably not doing enough in the grand scheme of things.

Here is what is on our roadmap for the coming months.

  • Of course, we remain committed to 1% for the planet.

  • We have completed an initial B corp assessment to become B corp certified in the coming years. As a consultancy active in many different industries, and on a wide variety of topics, becoming B corp certified requires a little bit more effort. But others have done it before us; there is no excuse for not eventually reaching that goal ourselves.

  • By summer 2023, we will have transitioned the mobility part of our compensation & benefits policy towards a mobility budget that includes alternative mobility solutions. It is a significant change for a consultancy. The "company car" has been a staple in our sector for decades.

  • We are also planning some changes regarding our offices. But that story is for another day 😇

Today, we are also publishing a dedicated page to hold ourselves accountable publicly to these commitments, and future ones.

We still have a long way to go, individually, collectively at Agilytic, and as a society. But the best way to see change remains to commit to it.

Let's keep going.
